I'm starting a project thread just for Vinnie's boot as it's such as mess!

Will get a before photo in a minute Smile It's full of sticky gunky underseal and random wires at the moment. Who knows what the underseal is hiding as it was like this before I bought him! Shocked

I've got one of those boot liner kits to go in which is the same colour as my seats, but it got stained by the black gunk thats in the boot when i tried to fit it. So I either need a new boot liner kit or to recover the stained one somehow!

First step is stripping out the black gunky under seal stuff that gets on everything in the boot. I'm going to do a bit in the morning!

My jack bag has got really groce too, and the battery cover so I need to sort them out at some point. I've also seen a chrome washer bottle (mpi washer bottle is in the boot) that would be nice to have but it might have to be a Christmas present!

That black gunky stuff looks like wax oil so perhaps the previouse owner looked after vinnie.

Does wax oil ever go hard Nick? Or does it always stay tacky?

I seem to remember the dealer who sold me Vinnie mentioned doing it, he was into minis and had one of his own and he had Vinnie for over a year just sat around not being driven before he decided to sell him, so he probably looked after him quite well. I love you

I need to wax oil underneath Vin before the winter!

It sounds like black wax oil you can get it in clear aswell which is not as visible, it doesnt dry out and go hard like underseal. Now is the right time to wax oil it underneath as it needs to go on when the mini is dry sunny well worth doing as rust monkeys love the salty roads.

Progress! Cleaned out the black oil using some white spirit on a few rags. It all came off quite easily but in the spare wheel hole there is still some tacky stuff I can't get off. There were a few patches where the paint had rubbed off and left white below showing-primer? Also found some strange ridges at the front of the boot floor. Maybe creasing from one of the rear end bumps? I'm proud of my clean battery top!

Found a little storage space I've never noticed because it was all black before. Not sure what I can keep in there though?!

I even cleaned my spare wheel, here is an 'exciting' photo of it: Cool Smile

Next up is to cover the boot kit I have and maybe make a new jack bag or find a decent jack thats small enough to fit in the space next to the battery?

I recovered my old boot kit this weekend! cheers

No pics yet but will get some when its light enough. Its not amazing but better than nothing. It's in stonebeige 'pleather' with black piping to match my seats. Recovered with double sided sticky tape and super glue, Blue Peter style.

Also discovered that secret storage space on the right is perfect size for keeping jump leads and WD40, yey.

Decided my old bootkit was no good, even after being recovered. When I was at Malvern I met a man called Martin who had a snazzy boot kit in his mini and he offered to make me one!

Picked it up yesterday eve I am soooo happy with it Very Happy

The best for me is the removable panel above the battery so I can easily get to it if I've got a flat batt or something without having to take out the whole boot kit Smile
